The training session will demonstrate the key elements of Family Engagement and Development with specific activities, understand the mandates, organize families, and increase outcomes. The session provides CDC Planning Guides and Resources related to COVID-19 and the OHS PFCE framework and tools for encouraging, involving, and measuring families’ involvement at different levels.

​HGJA’s Family Engagement Training Session provides early childhood and human/social services practitioners and professionals with the core fundamentals of how to enhance and/or build sustainable partnerships with families intentionally and reciprocally.

The training addresses culturally and linguistically responsive relationship-building, inclusionary principles, values, and ethical practices in providing human, social, and family development services. Participants will be able to learn strength-based approaches, assess critical social impacts, and apply human/social work best practices. This session will demonstrate a formal process for ethical family engagement with applicable quality-driven standards. Participants will learn how to assist managers and staff when working with families within their organization and their community.

The professional development session will also equip practitioners, staff, and programs to better respond to family engagement issues related to COVID-19 with clear guidelines and tools from the Centers for Disease Control’s Division of Adolescent School Health, the National Social Work Association, and the National Alliance on Mental Health. The Family Engagement session ensures practitioners and providers plan activities based on families’ needs and goals. Providers can use this information to move from family involvement to family engagement, which benefits both programs and families. When this is done with commitment, programs will engage families, improve outcomes, and ensure children’s and families’ comprehensive success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn and enhance their knowledge of Family Engagement and Family Partnership Services requirements of 45 CFR 1302.50 and 1302.52
  • Participants will be guided in using social media and virtual platforms as support tools for families during COVID-19 and uncertain times.
  • Participants learn and enhance their knowledge of Family Engagement and Family Partnership Services requirements pertaining to content area plans.
  • Participants will be guided in the systemic and not silo approach of applying the Office of Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework (PFCE) as a road map for progress.
  • Participants will learn culturally and linguistically responsive relationship-building, inclusionary principles, values, and ethical practices.
  • Participants will learn the importance of a system and data-driven family engagement plans as mandated.
  • Participants will explore effective Fatherhood Involvement principles and strategies.
  • Participants will learn how to ensure all regulatory data requirements are addressed, collected, and analyzed critical data to enhance family engagement practices, outcomes, and services.
  • Participants will receive strategies for designing innovative options for family engagement.
  • Participants will enhance their ability to assist and observe families appropriately, record information, conduct informational interviews, implement plans, employ problem-solving techniques, handle crisis intervention, and use case management and referral strategies.
  • Participants will learn coaching, mentoring, and effective supervision methods in making sound decisions with and for families.
  • Participants will be provided an opportunity for self-study, peer, and supervisory review.
  • Participants will learn tools to create comprehensive family services content area services based on exploring knowledge, skills, and individual practices that practitioners need to effectively engage families at varying levels.
  • Participants will be shown quality assurance and monitoring tools for ensuring completion of a that meets regulations and compliance.

Changes, Cancellations and Substitutions

HGJA reserves the right to make changes in the training or cancel a training if enrollment criteria are not met or when conditions beyond its control prevail. Registrants will be contacted in the event of a cancellation. HGJA’s liability will be limited to the refund of the training registration fee only. Cancellations can be made up to ten business days before your scheduled training: your registration fee will be refunded less a $50 fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations made less than ten business days prior to your scheduled training; however, you may send a substitute. All cancellation and substitution requests must be received in writing.
